Job Objective

To assist in the preparation and presentation of authentic South Indian cuisine by supporting senior chefs in food production, maintaining high standards of hygiene and quality, and contributing to efficient kitchen operations. The role aims to foster culinary skill development, uphold traditional recipes, and deliver consistent guest satisfaction through teamwork, precision, and dedication.

Essential Job Tasks

Areas of Responsibility

  • Assist in South Indian food preparation: Support senior chefs in cooking dishes like dosa, idli, vada, sambar, rasam, and regional specialties.

  • Ingredient prep: Chop vegetables, grind spices, prepare batters, and portion ingredients as per recipes.

  • Station setup: Organize assigned work area, ensure mise en place is ready before service.

  • Cooking support: Operate kitchen equipment (tawas, steamers, grinders) and follow cooking techniques specific to South Indian cuisine.

  • Plating and presentation: Help plate dishes attractively and consistently, maintaining quality standards.

Required Qualifications

Preferred: Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or Professional Cookery.

Short-term options: 6-month diploma in Indian & Continental Kitchen from institutes like IACT Chef Academy

Candidates with 1–2 years of hands-on kitchen experience in South Indian cuisine may be considered even without formal education

  • Skills in dosa, idli, vada preparation, spice blending, and hygiene practices are highly valued.

 

Work Experience

A dedicated culinary professional with 1–2 years of hands-on experience in preparing and presenting authentic South Indian dishes within a hotel or restaurant setting. Proficient in traditional cooking techniques such as steaming, tempering, and grinding, with a strong grasp of regional flavors and ingredients. Demonstrated ability to support senior chefs in high-volume kitchen operations, maintain hygiene standards, and contribute to consistent guest satisfaction. Skilled in mise en place, basic inventory handling, and collaborative teamwork across kitchen sections.

 
 

 

Languages Needed in Position

  • Basic English: For recipe understanding, safety instructions, and communication with supervisors.

  • Regional Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, or Malayalam—especially useful in South Indian kitchens for team coordination and understanding traditional recipes.
